Harry And Walter Go To New York (1976)
Two struggling vaudevillians turn into safecrackers in 1890s New York in the comedy HARRY AND WALTER GO TO NEW YORK. Oscar nominees James Caan ("The Godfather") and Elliott Gould ("Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice") are the titular small-time comics who are sentenced to prison for fraud. It's there they meet master safecracker Adam Worth, played by Academy Award winner Michael Caine ("Hannah and Her Sisters").
After dynamiting their way out of jail, Harry and Walter go to New York (naturally), where their plans to beat Worth at cracking an "impenetrable" safe are sidelined when they both fall in love with a radical newspaper editor played by Oscar winner Diane Keaton ("Annie Hall").
The trio race against time to beat Worth - who has purchased a "pardon" from the governor - and get both the money and the girl.
