 | "Ode To Freedom" - The Celebration Concert From Berlin
Only a few days after the fall f the Berlin Wall, Leonard Bernstein conducted this gala concert in a city that was no longer divided. On the programme was Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the final chorus of which became an ode, not to joy, but to freedom. It was a radiant performance, every moment of which breathed the joy and emotion that were felt in the face of this turning point in history.
Live recording of the concert given on 25 Dec...

 | Recorded at the Thomaskirche, Leipzig, 28 July 2000.
A recording pleasing to the ear as it is rich in atmosphere: Bach's B minor Mass, the composer's final work, is presented here by Georg Christoph Biller - like his illustrious predecessor, Thomaskantor in Leipzig - conducting that very boy's choir Bach himself directed for 27 years, the world-famous Thomanerchor. And even the concert's location is a guarantee of authenticity: the city's Thomaskirche, for which Bach wrote most of his church mu...

 | A long-lost classic of Gothic horror.
In the village of Holfen, a number of young women are found stabbed to death by what is determined to be an ancient dagger with a curved and rusty blade. The superstitious locals believe the murders to be the fulfillment of a curse placed on them in the 17th century by Baron Von Klaus, a sadistic libertine who killed many women before dying in the swamps surrounding his castle. The Baron's spirit is said to live on in his male descendants, but the rei...

 | During World War II, more than 70,000 Finnish children were evacuated to neutral Sweden to avoid the conflict. "Mother of Mine," the latest from the award-winning Klaus Haro ("Elina"), tackles that painful patch of history in a tale of 9-year-old Eero, a child who increasingly feels abandoned by his biological Finnish mother and yet not attached to his Swedish surrogate mom. When he is returned to Finland, his confusion intensifies.

 | A thriller riddled with paranoia and distrust, Klaus Menzel's FASCINATION is an acute study of a man stretched to breaking point by an egregious set of circumstances. Scott Doherty (Adam Garcia) is both stricken and confused when his mother, Maureen (Jacqueline Bisset), announces the tragic death of his father, who drowned during a curious boating mishap while the couple was on vacation. The incident seems highly irregular to Scott due to his father's considerable athletic prowess. But Scott's e...
